Jaffna BPO Technologies Limited, which carries out accounting transaction processing for the subsidiaries of the John Keells Group, via Group subsidiary Infomate Pvt Limited, was honored and delighted to welcome The Honourable Ajith Nivard Cabraal, Minister of Finance on 27th of February 2021. The minister who is a keen supporter of the IT / BPM Industry expressed his interest to visit the centre during his visit to Jaffna. The honorable minister, accompanied by the honorable member of parliament, Angajan Ramanathan, and a team of senior government officials were greeted warmly by the associates of Jaffna BPO in traditional fashion with the lighting of a “Kuththuvilakku” and garlanding.
The team organized a walkthrough of the process with a demonstration and the minister spoke with some employees who benefited from this project. The minister was very impressed with how the project positively impacted the employees lives. Mr. Jehan Perinpanayagam, CEO Infomate and Director SLASSCOM, shared a presentation on the concept of rural BPOs and its potential to create employment opportunities across Sri Lanka, not just in the cities. He also mentioned how overseas Sri Lankans could help their mother land with supporting the concept of outsourcing which will create opportunities for the youth in such rural areas. Addressing the gathering, the minister mentioned that he was very happy to see this project a success and conveyed the interest in promoting such initiatives for the growth of the industry.
The unique rural BPM project pioneered by Infomate Limited, in partnership with the John Keells Foundation, FARO and ICTA has been a true example of a sustainable project. The first such project was launched in 2007 in the rural hamlet of Mahavilachcchiya, followed by Seenigama and then Jaffna. The project currently supports over 50 direct rural jobs and has facilitated employment for over 200 over a decade. The associates work on SAP and are trained in the world-class processes and security standards of Infomate. Many of these associates have gone on to secure excellent employment in the public and private sector.
